Foden’s stars shine brightly at Houghton

Mark Bousie and Mark Wilkinson travelled to the North East last weekend to work with the Hoghton Area Youth Band and later perform with Houghton Brass as guest soloists. Commenting on the event Mark Bousie stated, “It was a brilliant day up in the North East working alongside Mark with the excellent Houghton Area Youth Band, delivering a masterclass to local brass musicians and then appearing as soloists with the equally excellent Houghton Brass. It was lovely to get the opportunity to perform Pete Meechan’s ‘Harry’s Song’ (completed on the evening that my now 8 year old son was born) as one of my solos.

“It was great to see lots of familiar, friendly faces playing and working with the bands; it’s been ten years since my last trip to Houghton and eighteen years since I first visited. Our thanks go to everyone who helped to organise everything and made us feel so welcome, especially Stuart Gibson.”

Stuart responded, “I would like to thank both Mark Bousie and Mark Wilkinson for a brilliant weekend. The workshops they ran were excellent and all of the players involved got a lot out of working with them. They are also two soloists of the highest quality and sounded absolutely first class in the evening concert. We must do it all again soon!”
