Women musicians from across the ages celebrated as international conference returns to Wales
The UK’s leading performing rights organisation, PRS for Music, is bringing experts from across the music industry to Bangor University, Wales, on Friday 6 September, as part of the International Conference on Women’s Work in Music. The conference will celebrate achievements of women musicians from across the ages to present day, whilst exploring and discussing the changing contexts of women’s work in music on the international stage.
Hosted at the School of Music and Media, the Women’s Leadership in Music panel will be chaired by PRS for Music’s Classical Relationship Manager, Harriet Wybor.Panellists Edwina Wolstencroft, BBC Radio 3 Editor, Woman’s Hour Top 40 Women in Music List 2018 and BBC Power List 2019, Deborah Annetts, Chief Executive, Incorporated Society of Musicians, Deborah Keyser, Director, Tŷ Cerdd and composer, writer and critic Steph Power, will discuss what women’s leadership in music means for musicians, educators and organisations and the challenges that women face in the workplace today.
Panellists will share inside knowledge, highlight qualities women bring to the table as leaders and explore how organisations can foster an environment to support and promote women in leadership at different levels.

The three day conference will also showcase works from PRS for Music songwriter and composer members during its evening concerts. One Charming Night Bitter-Sweet Violin Sonata is a celebration of violin music by Rhian Samuel, whilst Illuminate Women’s Music present, world-renowned soprano, Patricia Auchterlonie and Illuminate String Quartet, performing historical repertoire alongside new works from composers including Angela Elizabeth Slater, Sarah Westwood, Joanna Ward and Yfat Soul Zisso.
