Llwydcoed wins the National Eisteddfod Championships
Congratulations to Llwydcoed Band for wining the 2019 Welsh National Eisteddfod, held in Llanrwst in Conwy last weekend. The Welsh TV channel S4C broadcast the brass band competitions showcasing Llwydcoed’s fantastic perfoemance that earned them £750 prize money and the Flintshire Territorial Army Cup. The band were on impressive form under the expert guidance of Musical Director Chris Turner, with adjudicator Melvin White stating the band’s 20 minute set was, "A programme that showed off the full range of the band's skills and palette of colour."
The programme began with 'Nordic Polska'leading into the sublime tones of Gareth Robinson as the featured trombone soloist in 'Song for Japan'. 'Welsh Clog Dance'from 'Day of the Dragon'led straight into Evelyn Glennie’s 'A Little Prayer'before the band concluded with the finale from Philip Sparke's 'Music of the Spheres'.
Commenting on the victory Chris Turner was typically generous as he paid tribute to his band, “I’m so proud ofthe hard working Llwydcoed Band for winning the National Eisteddfod. A massive well done to Gareth Robinsonfor his stunning ‘Song for Japan’ and to everyone for delivering in bucket loads on stage. Thanks also to David Childs for taking some rehearsals and my sincere thanks to the people who helped us out (some very last minute!). Great bandsmen and great people.”
