A ‘Grand’ day out for David Read MBE
A concert celebrating the musical career of David Read MBE has raised over £1,000 for his chosen charity, 'The Friends of Hinchingbrooke Hospital' near Huntingdon. The concert took place at the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Godmanchester and featured the East London Brass under the skillful direction of Jayne Murrill, performing works that are significant to David.
The programme contained a varied mix of repertoire from Gilbert Vinter’s “James Cook –Circumnavigator’ to ‘Oklahomna!’. Undoubtedly one of the concert highlights was when David took a break from his warm and knowledgeable commentary to pick up his cornet to star in a wonderful rendition of Leroy Anderson’s classic trio, ‘Bugler’s Holiday’.
Commenting on the day David was keen to thank everyone for their support, "I'm very grateful for everyone who came to the concert and to the thousands who have since enjoyed the concert on-line through the Facebook page of East London Brass. It was a wonderful afternoon and I'm particularly thrilled by the generosity shown in supporting a wonderful organisation."
