Eikanger awarded substantial funding

Eikanger-Bjorsvik , the current Norwegian National champion has just announced that the band has been awarded significant grant funding totaling NOK 1,250000. The funding has been donated by influential individuals as well as companies with cultural philanthropic ideals. This has been further boosted by the national government, securing the band as additional NOK 312,500 , giving the band almost £150,000 to use towards their future musical aims.

Band spokesperson Viggo Bjørge stated that these aims would include planning new exciting educational projects as well as investing in the band’s structure and securing their future international commitments: "We have worked hard to develop strong links to the business community in Bergen and the surrounding area, and to show that Eikanger has the ability to be a positive cultural role model on a regional and national basis. That has been appreciated and supported by influential philanthropic individuals such as Mr Trond Mohn who has given over 5 billion Krone to cultural causes over the past few years, as well as companies that see the importance in investing in culture — including brass bands."

He continued: "This generous support and that from the Ministry of Culture will enable us to develop the band, strengthen our educational outreach work, develop our rehearsal facilities, increase our ability to undertake innovative projects and secure our long term international commitments."
