Adrienne Howell Celebrates BEM at Buckingham Palace

Adrienne Howell is a lady from Mere in Wiltshire, well known for her work teaching Brass and forming Mere Manor Brass with her late husband Bernard more than 50 years ago. Adrienne and her late husband are both life Presidents of Wessex Brass Band Association, and many bands in the Wilts Dorset Somerset and Hampshire areas are continuing to benefit from players initially taught by Adrienne and Bernard and making their first performances with Mere Manor Youth Band.

 
Adrienne has continued to be fully involved in local community work, including 20 years as Director and Trustee of the annual Literacy Festival, Mere and District Link Scheme, Mere Drama Society and the Mere Rivers Group.
 
Adrienne was recognised in the New Year’s Honours list and awarded the British Empire Medal in recognition of more than 50 years’ service to the local community.
 
The medal was presented in Salisbury Cathedral a few weeks ago. This was followed by an invitation to a Buckingham Palace Garden party. Adrienne enjoyed here visit to London and was accompanied by her Niece Julia Woods. The sun shone and whilst partaking of afternoon tea Adrienne enjoyed listening to the Band of the Scots Guards conducted Major Ian Johnson and couldn’t resist going and having a chat!
