2020 Welsh Regional New Venue Announcement

The Welsh Regional Council is delighted to announce that Swansea University’s Great Hall has been chosen as the venue for the Welsh Regional Championships 2020.

Designed by world-renowned architect Dr Demetri Porphyrios, The Great Hall is the £32m flagship building at the heart of Swansea University's Science and Innovation Bay Campus. With a 700-seat auditorium offering world class acoustics and state-of-the-art AV facilities, the Great Hall provides an incredible venue in which to hold the Welsh Regional Championships.

The competition itself will be held in the magnificent Sir Stanley Clarke Auditorium. The impressive wood-panelled concert venue with its state-of-the-art technical and acoustic design specification provides a world-class setting for the 2020 Welsh Regional Championships.

The Welsh Regional Council can also announce that the Championships will take place earlier in the year than normal, over the weekend of 29 February-1 March. The format of the weekend will be the same as in previous years though, with Sections 3, 2 & 1 on Saturday 29 February, and Section 4 & Championship Section on Sunday 1 March.

Speaking on behalf of the Welsh Regional Council, Philip Morris (Secretary) commented: “The earlier weekend was chosen as it doesn’t clash with any Welsh 6 Nations fixtures! More importantly, choosing this weekend ensured that the Welsh Regional Championships is the only region taking place on that particular weekend - so the sole focus will be on us. The Welsh Regional Council is pleased that the Championships are returning to Swansea, and we look forward to working with Swansea University to deliver a fantastic celebration of Welsh brass banding”.

Entry packs for the Welsh Regional Championships 2020 will be sent out in October/November, and more information regarding the Great Hall can be found using the contact information below:
