Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition

The inaugural Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition will take place at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in July. An international jury of World class musicians comprising: Reinhold Friedrich (trumpet), Barbara Butler (trumpet), Frøydis Ree Wekre (horn), Ian Bousfield (trombone) and Oren Marshall (tuba) will make the important decision on which quintet will win the prestigious award and first place prize money of £10,000.
 
Established by Ursula Jones and John Miller, the competition will showcase the World’s finest young brass quintets as they demonstrate their musical excellence and enterprise in brass chamber music performance. Participants aged between 16 and 30, will compete in Manchester for the semi-finals and final with entrants hailing from the UK, USA, Germany, Italy, France, Austria and Croatia.
 
The semi-finals and final will take place in the Concert Hall of the RNCM, with free to the semi-finals at 2pm on 18th July. Admission to the Master Classes the following day in the Carole Nash Recital Hall at 2.00pm is also free.
