Dr Brett Baker becomes Geneva Consultant

Dr Brett Baker has announced he is stepping down as Programme Leader for Musical Arts and Lecturer at the University of Salford at the end of this academic year as he takes on the role of Education Consultant and General Manager at The Geneva Group. He will however retain a connection with Salford as a brass instructor and PhD supervisor. 
 
Brett has worked at the University as a part time lecturer since 2010 and full time as Programme Leader of Musical Arts since 2013. He studied Business Economics at Salford during the 1990s, played in the band and taught trombone at Salford during the time David King was leading course. Brett has been instrumental in attracting some high-profile students to the course over the last decade that continue to play in bands such as Black Dyke, Brighouse & Rastrick, Fairey, Leyland and Fodens. He was also the driving force in bringing in expert specialist teachers such as Richard Marshall, Katrina Marzella, Tom Davoren, Paul Holland, Ben Richeton and Helen Varley. High profile guests have also visited the University throughout this period including: the Grenadier Guards, the Band of the Kings Division, the RAF Central Band, Glenn Van Looy, David Thornton, Paul Mealor, Philip McCann, Paul Lovatt Cooper, Nigel Clarke, Gavin Higgins and James Fountain.
 
As Geneva continues to expand its reach, Black Dyke's principal trombone will play a vital role in looking at a range of new initiatives for the company to support the brass band movement. CEO of Geneva Tim Oldroyd commented on the appointment: "I'm delighted to welcome Brett on board with his experience in many aspects of instrument design, teaching, conducting, playing as well as marketing, promotion, strategy and management."
