Johan de Meij celebrated at 65

Celebrated Dutch composer Johan de Meij, arguably best known amongst the brass band movement for his 'Extreme Makeover' and ‘UFO Euphonium Concerto’, has recently enjoyed his 65thbirthday. As one of The Netherland’s most popular composers, the occasion is being marked this weekend with a number of concert performances in The Hague: 'Festival Blazen aan het Spui'.

The final concert tomorrow (9th December) will feature ‘Extreme Makeover’, a work inspired by Tchaikovsky and originally written for the 2005 European Championships. The challenging piece will be performed by Provinciale Brassband Groningen, the current Dutch National Champions.
