Busy Brass at RWCMD

The brass department at Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama had a particularly busy day yesterday (7thDecember) taking part in both a special concert, attended by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales in celebration of his 70th birthday and a festive performance at the capital’s premier concert venue, St David’s Hall.

The celebratory concert in the Dora Stoutzker Hall featured a selection of music and drama performances, showcasing the talents of the College’s young artists. Emmy-award winner and Golden Globes nominated actor Matthew Rhys, International Chair of Drama at the College, introduced the event. Guests included Owen Teale, Catrin Finch and graduate Hugo Blick, as well as students, staff, supporters and friends of the College.

Meanwhile at St. David’s Hall the mood was a little lighter, as over 900 audience members enjoyed listening to the RWCMD Brass Band led by Dr. Robert Childs. This high quality concert has become a firm favourite in the St. David’s Hall festive concert series. The band played a selection of Christmas classics, featuring a number of soloists from within the talented band. With Bob’s charming and knowledgeable compering and such polished playing from the students, the enjoyment of the audience was guaranteed. The concert concluded with the whole audience on their feet in appreciation, before being rewarded with an encore encouraging everyone to join in and wish each other a Merry Christmas.
