Four in a row for Valaisia

Valaisia Brass Band made it four wins in a row at the Swiss National Championships  at the Stravinski Auditorium. The band failed to make its mark with their own choice selection of ‘Glass’ by Simon Dobson, resulting in judges Philip Harper, Tom Davoren, and Stephen Roberts placing them 4th, giving 1stplace to Brass Band Burgermusik who played Paul McGhee’s ’King Kong on Rue Igor Stravinski’. However Valaisia certainly found favour with Ian Porthouse, Glyn Williams and Mark Wilkinson with their terrific performance of the set work, Derek Bourgeois’ ‘Concerto Grosso’ and so won the day.

There was a silver lining for runners-up Brass Band Burgermusik who also qualify for the 2019 European Championships, owing to Valaisia’s pre-qualification as reigning Champions.  Given this weekend’s performances, it promises to be a high quality affair for the home nation in May.
