Redruth succeed with new MD

On Saturday the 3rd of November 2018, Redruth Town Band competed in the 4thSection at the 72ndAnnual Southwest Brass Band Associations Annual Championship - Riviera Centre, Torquay. This marked their debut appearance under their new Musical Director, Mr Andrew Craze.

A spokesperson from the band described the win, “After an early start and final rehearsal to finalise the finishing touches to the test piece ‘Lydian Pictures’by Simon Dobson, they took to the stage. The start was confident and this continued throughout demonstrating style, musicality and quality. The band worked hard and this came across in the performance.

“Whilst tentatively waiting for the results the band came together as a team, the nervous tension grew as the band members listened to the announcements of 3rdand 2ndplace.   Excitement increased as they announced the Special Award for the Best Bass Section to Redruth’s team of Basses.   This was followed by the 1stplace result - Redruth Town Band!!

“It was a fantastic result and we’re delighted with the adjudicator’s remarks, ‘The overall performance was stylish, energetic, with vigour and wholly enjoyable. Better than 4thSection’.

“One thing is clear, Redruth Town Band is growing in commitment and dedication under the new musical direction of Mr Craze. He brings a wealth of experience and professional musicianship to the Town Band. After serving over 22 years in the military with The Band of the Dragoon Guards he is delighted to be back in Redruth, the town he grew up in as well as being a member of the town band himself in the 80s.”
