St Dennis MD becomes a Bard

St Dennis Band MD, Darren Hawken will become a Bard of the Gorsedh Kernow next month in recognition of his services to Cornish music. Darren will become one of 16 new people welcomed into the 500 strong Bardic College in an initiation ceremony that will take place on Saturday 1st September in Newquay.

Commenting on the announcement Darren said: "I'm deeply honoured and proud to be announced as a new Bard. I thank colleagues and fellow musicians that I've worked with along the way, and I'm very much looking forward to the initiation next month."

Darren has led St Dennis to the First Section National Championship title as well as victories at the West of England Regional Championship and Bugle Contest. The band was also the runner-up at the Senior Trophy earlier this year.
