RWCMD announces new Head of Brass Performance

Roger Argente, renowned bass trombonist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, will become the new Head of Brass Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Roger has been the Principal Bass Trombonist with the RPO for over twenty-five years, during which time he has worked with some of the finest conductors and soloists, and in some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals across the world. In addition to his extensive orchestral pedigree, Roger created the hugely acclaimed 'Superbrass' in 2005 and is a highly experienced educator and teacher.

Commenting on his appointment Roger said, "I can't wait to start this new job next year, so close to where I was born and started my tromboning life, plus the chance to work alongside the amazing Kevin Price and Robert Childs." Robert Childs has been acting as interim Head of Brass Performance, supporting Kevin Price in his role as Head of Music Performance since September and is looking forward to working with Roger in the new year. "Roger is a first class musician who will have a huge impact on the brass students here at the RWCMD". Robert continued, "I have had the pleasure of knowing Roger for a great many years, during which time he has been heavily involved in establishing the RPO's award winning Education Department, set the trombone syllabus for the Trinity Guildhall Examination Board, and he sits on the Artistic Board of the World Youth Orchestra. I had the great pleasure of examining with him recently at the RWCMD and his expertise and musicianship is unquestionable, but more than that he is a really great guy. I'm delighted that he will be returning to Wales as Head of Brass Performance. "

John Cramner, Director of Performance at the RWCMD, is also keen to welcome Roger to Cardiff, "Originally from Neath, Roger’s appointment as Head of Brass Performance at the National Conservatoire of Wales marks a moment of homecoming for this hugely experienced, versatile professional musician, teacher, publisher and entrepreneur. We look forward immensely to working with him in further developing all areas of brass performance at the College. Roger will be joining us in his new role at the beginning of February. Until then, I'm hugely grateful to Dr Robert Childs for his continuing work as Interim Head of Brass Performance."
