James Fountain visits Stavanger

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Principal Trumpet player James Fountain was the featured guest soloist at Stavanger Band's recent concert on Sunday 26th November, in Norway.

James joined the Stavanger Band and conductor Adam Cooke to give a stunning performance of the virtuosic and ever popular Arutiunian 'Trumpet Concerto'. As well as orchestral transcriptions the band's programme featured classics from the brass band repertoire such as Eric Ball's 'Kensington Concerto', which also drew very warm response from the audience.

Since his appointment as resident conductor of the band, Adam has been making weekly trips from London to Stavanger and stated: "I've worked with James many times at Virtuosi GUS, so when the Arutiunian was mentioned I couldn't think of anyone better. The audience were treated to a truly world class performance."

As well as being the featured soloist, James took time out from a busy rehearsal schedule to deliver a masterclass for cornet players from local bands. A spokesperson for the event commented: "It was a great pleasure to welcome James as our guest soloist. Players and audience members of all ages were absolutely thrilled to learn from him and enjoyed his remarkable talents enormously."
