Brighouse & Rastrick take National Glory

Yorkshire’s Brighouse and Rastirck Band and Professor David King stormed to victory at the recent National Brass Band Championships held at the Royal Albert Hall.

Victory was clinched with the final performance of the day, as the winning performance found favour with the crowd, as well as esteemed adjudicators Howard Snell, Luc Vertommen and Phillip McCann. The band's outstanding principal cornetist, Kathleen Gaspoz was also rewarded with the soloist prize. Defending Champions, Cory had their hat-trick dreams dashed, but still managed a very creditable 3rd place, just behind their rivals from across the Valleys, Tredegar Town Band under Ian Porthouse. The North West bands, Faireys and Foden's, claimed 4th and 5th spots respectively with Scotland's Whitburn consolidating a great result at the Open by taking 6th place.

A full report will appear in the next edition of BBW.
