2018 Butlin’s Festival to rock with high-octane acts

The 2018 Butlin's Mineworkers National Open Brass Band Festival, due to take place from 12-15 January, has lined-up the high- octane, high-profile entertainment package for which the holiday company is famous.

The 2017 Butlin’s Champion, Virtuosi GUS, will give the main Friday night (12 January) concert in Centre Stage, whilst the Youth Festival will go off in Reds venue the same evening and present performances from the competing youth bands.

The party at Butlin’s, Skegness, will really start to rock on Saturday night (13th), courtesy of the Black Dyke Mills Reunion Band, assembled by Simon Gresswell and featuring some of the band’s most iconic names from its past. Meanwhile sizzling saxophonist, Snake Davis, will appear in Reds after the contest Awards Ceremony, after which the amazing Bavarian Stompers will appear for the second consecutive year by popular demand. Sunday evening (14th) will see Superbrass, led by Roger Argente and starring some of music’s top brass names, dazzle Centre Stage.

Said Festival Director, Steve Walker: “We always book a range of acts to appeal to all tastes, and there are also lots of other entertainment and facilities for which Butlin’s is famous, including the multi-million pound Water World and Spa - there’s something for everyone!”

Not surprisingly, given the £10,000 Championship Section contest prize fund, organisers are anticipating increased contest entries. £1,000 will also go to the top section outfit winning the Own-choice Test-Piece and £1,000 to the Sunday Entertainment Contest top section victor. Bands placed in sections 1 to 4 will receive the following cash awards: 1st - £2,000; 2nd - £1,000; 3rd - £700; 4th - £500 and there’s a £2,300 prize fund for the Sunday Youth Band Festival’s Unregistered and Youth sections.
