Auditions Advice Week at Chetham’s

Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester - the largest specialist music school in the UK and the only one in the north of England - is holding its first ever Advice Audition Week for students considering applying to join the School from 2018.

These informal, one-to-one auditions with heads of department provide individual advice and guidance about application in a friendly, non-judgemental setting. Aimed at young people interested in finding out more about the School and preparing for full audition, they are a fantastic opportunity to play for some of the UK’s finest and most knowledgeable musicians, as well as to receive individual feedback on a range of musical skills.

Advice Auditions are open to players of any instrument (including voice, composition and jazz) considering applying for a place at Chetham’s in 2018 or beyond. Students may join the School at any age from Year 4 up to Year 12, where they will receive incomparable music teaching and performance opportunities alongside a superb academic education. In 2016, Chetham’s had the best exam results of any non-academically selective Manchester school and the School’s students progress to leading conservatoires across the World, but have also moved onto high-profile careers in law, medicine, politics, theatre and dance.

What matters at Chetham’s is musical potential, not background or ability to pay. Almost all UK students, and EU students, aged 16 plus, receive means-tested funding up to full teaching and boarding fees through the government’s Music and Dance Scheme.

Students attending Advice Auditions are asked to make a contribution of £25.00 towards instrumental tutors’ time, but if this cost proves a barrier to any family, the School is often able to offer assistance.

Saturday 13 May: 9.30am - midday
Monday 15 - Friday 19 May: 4.00pm - 6.00pm
