Radio 2 Brass Award Finalists

Earlier this week, highlights from the BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Award semi-final, recorded on 11 February 2017, in the Philharmonic Studio, Salford were broadcast on BBC Radio 2.

Performing with the Foden's Band, the eight semi-finalists were:

Lewis Bettles - Trombone
James Nash - Flugel Horn
Samuel Taber - Bass Trombone
Ross Dunne - Tenor Horn
Isobel Daws - Trombone
Siobhan Bates - Tenor Horn
Adam Neild - Cornet
Ellena Newton - Trombone

Each musician performed up to 10 minutes of music, forming a very high quality semi-final, from which four finalists were selected. Performance highlights are available for 28 days here.

Following much discussion and debate, judges Helen Vollam and David Childs selected Isobel Daws, Ellena Newton,  James Nash and Siobhan Bates to compete in the Final, to take place at the Royal Northern College of Music Manchester on Friday 21 April - presented live on BBC Radio 2 by Clare Teal and Frank Renton.

Foden’s Band will once again accompany the young musicians, and play a concert of their own during the adjudication.

Tickets are free and are available from the RNCM Box Office or via www.bbc.co.uk/radio2
