BBW Interview: Steven and Misa Mead

Euphonium-playing husband and wife, Steven and Misa Mead, enjoy flourishing solo careers and also perform together internationally. Spurred by popular demand from concert audiences, the pair has now recorded the CD, Love’s Joy. Christopher Thomas caught up with the jet-setting couple to find out about the recording and their musical lives together.

Back in the 1980s, many of us will recall Steven Mead's meteoric arrival on the brass band scene when, as a young student at Bristol University under the tutelage of Derek Bourgeois and a member of Sun Life Band, he won the solo competition prize on BBC2' s Best of Brass playing Blaydon Races.

Three decades on and Steven’s place in the euphonium hall of fame has long been secured. As Besson/Buffet Crampon Artist and Clinician, indefatigable international travelling soloist and teacher, all-round euphonium entrepreneur and prominent recording artist, he remains both at the top of his game and at the very forefront of his art as a player…
