The Territorial Youth Band Course’s milestone 20th course under the baton of founder, Dr. Stephen Cobb - Catherine Wallis recalls the first course and finds its modern-day incarnation in rude health

In the mid-1990s, Dr. Stephen Cobb had the vision to create a course that would inspire young Salvationist brass musicians, Grade 5 standard or above, to strive for excellence within The Salvation Army. At the time, some of The Salvation Army’s leaders required persuading as to the relevance of this kind of course in the modern-day Salvation Army. However, Dr Cobb persevered with his vision and eventually, in 1998 the first Young People’s Band Member’s Course was held at Cliff House, then a Salvation Army hotel in Bournemouth.
